Biography

Robert O’Halloran studied film and TV production in St. John’s central college in Cork City. During his time in college Robert won the 1st year student showcase award in 2007 and was chosen to represent the college at the 2007 Du Grain a demoudre Film Festival in France and again in 2008 for the Leonardo Da Vinci project in Budapest, Hungary. Robert graduated with merits in Camera & Lighting for T.V & Film and 6 other media related subjects as well as receiving distinctions in Film & Digital video and visualization skills for Art Direction in 2008. 

While still in college, Robert’s short film “Piebald” received the Corona Cork Film Festival’s 24 hour Kommando Challenge Award 2007. In 2008 his short film “Friend” was accepted to the 2008 Corona Cork Film Festival and went on to be selected for the 2009 Irish Short Film Festival in Chicago, it also received the runner up prize at the Dublin Solas Film Festival in 2009. 



Robert worked on contract with Frameworks Films from 2009 - 2010. During his time with Frameworks Films Robert worked in several different capacities of the film making process, from Pre-production to Production to Post Production. Robert then went on to freelance in many different roles, from Camera assisting on Loose Horse’s made for RTE series “Meet the Neighbours” to Sound recording on the feature film “Pilgrim Hill” as well as Directing, camera operating, assisting and lighting on several other award winning film projects and TV projects for Irish and international broadcast.

Robert has worked on many different Film and TV projects in a professional capacity since 2008 and in late 2010/Early 2011 was the founding member of the “Insomniac Film Collaborative” a not-for-profit organization which aims to promote and encourage independent film making in Cork and around Ireland. The Insomniac Film Collaborative enjoyed several successes in their first year. Broadcasting their fist TV show "Cork On Screen" Directed by Robert on Cork Community TV & winning prizes in local competitions as well as having shorts selected to screen at the 2010 Murphy’s big big night out and the 2011 Darklight Film Festival.
